Peer Review Process

Manuscript Review and Publication Process

Manuscripts submitted to Islamic Economic History and Thought Review undergo a rigorous selection and evaluation process by the Board of Editors to ensure alignment with the journal’s writing guidelines, focus, and scope, as well as to maintain high academic quality. The review process follows a double-blind peer review system, where neither the authors nor the reviewers are aware of each other’s identities.

1. Desk Review

At this initial stage, the editorial team assesses submitted manuscripts to determine their adherence to the journal’s writing guidelines, focus, and scope, and to ensure academic excellence. Manuscripts that do not meet these standards may be returned to the author for revision or, in some cases, rejected outright.

2. Peer Review

Manuscripts that pass the desk review are assigned to two expert reviewers in the relevant field. The peer review process typically takes four weeks. Manuscripts that do not successfully pass the desk review will not proceed to this stage.

3. Reviewer’s Decision

After assessment, reviewers will provide one of the following recommendations:

  • Accepted – The manuscript is suitable for publication without revisions.
  • Accepted with Minor Revisions – The manuscript is publishable after minor adjustments based on the reviewers’ feedback.
  • Accepted with Major Revisions – Significant modifications are required, such as improvements in data analysis, theoretical framework, or restructuring of content.
  • Rejected – The manuscript does not meet the journal’s academic standards or has fundamental issues that cannot be addressed through revisions.

The final decision on the manuscript’s progression is made by the Board of Editors based on the reviewers’ recommendations.

4. Revision Stage

Authors of manuscripts requiring revisions will receive a review summary. The timeframe for revisions is as follows:

  • Minor revisions – Two weeks
  • Major revisions – Four weeks

Failure to submit revisions within the specified period may result in rejection.

5. Final Decision

Once revisions are submitted, the Board of Editors re-evaluates the manuscript to ensure that all necessary changes have been addressed. If revisions are inadequate or incomplete, the manuscript may still be rejected at this stage.

6. Proofreading

Accepted manuscripts undergo a proofreading process to ensure linguistic accuracy and clarity.

7. Publication Confirmation

The final layout of the manuscript is sent to the author for approval. Authors may request minor typographical corrections at this stage. Upon final confirmation, the manuscript proceeds to online publication on the journal’s website and print publication in the scheduled issue.
